Orion Capital Management LLC
Joseph F. (Seph) Huber is a Portfolio Manager and Managing Director of Orion Capital Management LLC. He joined the firm in 2009.
Capstone Investments
Prior to joining Orion, Mr. Huber was Managing Director of Capstone Investments in San Diego, where he structured both public and private debt and equity investment banking transactions in the media, energy, telecommunications and health care sectors.
Longitude, Inc.
From 2000 to 2004 he helped to found and served as Senior Vice President for Longitude, Inc., a financial technology firm that created and provided an innovative new derivatives trading platform to major capital markets clients including Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Swiss Re, and the New York Mercantile Exchange.
From 1986 to 1998, Mr. Huber held positions with financial institutions in London and New York as a hedge fund manager and proprietary trader, generating profits for the firms by trading their own capital.
Standard Bank
At Standard Bank in London from 1995 to 1998, he co-founded and co-managed an internal hedge fund that focused on South African equities and derivatives.
Smith New Court
Before joining Standard Bank, Mr. Huber was Head of European and African proprietary trading at Smith New Court in London, where he generated profits by trading the firm's own capital in the UK, Dutch, Swiss, French, Italian, German, and South African equity markets. He produced high returns on capital by taking hedged positions in equity futures, options, convertible bonds, and warrants, and also through arbitrage between physical commodities and commodity-based equities.
PaineWebber
Prior to joining Smith New Court in 1991, Mr. Huber was a proprietary trader at PaineWebber in New York and subsequently in London. He traded the firm's index arbitrage futures and options book, ultimately managing positions in excess of USD $2 billion in the S&P 500 and OEX indices. He moved to London in 1990 to manage Paine Webber's OTC options portfolio.
Education
Mr. Huber earned a Master of Science degree with a concentration in finance from M.I.T.'s Sloan School of Management in 1985. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Colby College in 1981.
